Detoxing Turmeric Soda Recipe

The best recipes are borrowed ones, don’t you think? Those crinkled old note cards, the stained cookbook pages, and the Pinterest links passed on and on and on that make up the tried and true. Like this one. I got this recipe from my friend, Rio, who got it from her friend, Grace, who got it from Kara from karaspregnant.com. Although I’ve never met Kara, she’s my hero for sharing this recipe. It may sound a little funky, but the anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric and honey along with the digestive benefits of ginger, apple cider vinegar, and lemon juice make this one liquid gold. So take a break and do some good by mixing up a glass of this Turmeric Soda.

Turmeric Soda

Yields: 10 cups

1 cup raw honey

1 cup apple cider vinegar

1 cup lemon juice

1 Tbsp ginger powder

1 Tbsp turmeric powder

1 tsp vanilla extract

8 cups filtered water

Seltzer water

Cracked pepper (optional)

Method:

1. In a large pitcher or bowl, mix honey and spices together.

2. Warm 2 cups of filtered water and add to honey mixture to melt the honey.

3. Add the apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, and vanilla. Stir in remaining cups of water.

4. When ready to drink, use ratio of 2 oz mixture to 2 oz seltzer water. Store ready to use in fridge.

Annie’s Notes:

  • If you’re nervous about the turmeric flavor, trying halving the recipe for your first batch.
  • Keeping the seltzer water separate from the spiced honey mixture maintains the fizz.
  • For discounted powdered spices, check the bulk spice section at your local Sprouts.
  • This soda makes a great mocktail for pregnant or breastfeeding mamas and can be mixed with the alcohol of your choice to make a quick summer cocktail.
